ProPurus is a nonprofit environmental organization created in 2010 to protect the forests and indigenous inhabitants of the Peruvian Amazon headwaters. As a field-based organization, we have gained extensive experience in the Amazon region and built strong relationships with local people and pertinent governmental agencies which allow us to provide critical on the ground support to the indigenous communities with whom we work.
We strongly believe that the long-term conservation of the Amazon will only be possible with the active participation of indigenous people. Therefore, one of our main focus is to strengthen the capacity of local communities to participate in and benefit from conservation efforts so they can assume the role of stewards of their land.
