The Federation of Indigenous and Peasant Organizations of Azuay, FOA, is made up of Indigenous rural Kañari communities that promotes joint action with Civil Society organizations in the cities in defense of water, and for a province free of mining. FOA members are Indigenous and peasant communities in the Province of Azuay, Ecuador, and are part of the National Indigenous Confederation (CONAIE). For over 20 years FOA has been leading the resistance to extractivism, in defense of the Kimsakocha lakes, so that water is guaranteed for human life and for all living beings. Intercultural and intergenerational approaches allow FOA to cultivate unity in diversity through various actions such as assemblies, walks in defense of water, agroecological minkas, and experience with Pachamama involving young people, women and the elderly.
